Days One through Four

Here are the recipes and results for my first four days of waffle-making!

Day One
    Recipe
  • 1 cup. generic waffle mix ** (Honeyville Farms brand. 7 lb bag)
  • 1.5 cups. water
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil

**Make your own waffle mix:

  • 2 cups flour, all-purpose
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt, fine

(No photo available)

Yield: 4 waffles

Results: A very generic tasting waffle. Rather dry, on the inside. Apply lots of butter and syrup to these ones!

Day Two

Waffles. Day Two.

Recipe
  • Follow Day One recipe
  • Add: 1 tbsp. cinnamon, ground.
  • Add: 1 tbsp. cooking oil

Yield: 4 waffles, with a slight cinnamon taste

Results: Still rather dry and generic tasting. Cinnamon adds nice flavor, though. Tastes like a pancake ... in the form of a waffle!

Day Three

Waffles. Day Three.

Recipe
  • Follow Day One recipe
  • Add: 2 tbsp. butter, melted.
  • Add: 1 tbsp. cooking oil
  • Add: 1 tsp. salt, fine

Yield: 4 waffles

Results: Better waffle. Less dry than previous days. Doubled recipe and left extras for roommates.

Day Four - The Buttermilk Discovery
Waffles. Day Four. Now with the
power of buttermilk!

Recipe
  • Follow Day Three recipe
  • Subtract: 1/2 cup water
  • Add: 1/2 cup buttermilk

Yield: 4 waffles

Results: Batter "chunkier", less runny than previous days. Waffles have more texture and markedly better taste. Still not quite good enough to eat plain, but tasty.
